Kick to open the boot...

Greetings,
For no reason, this feature quits on me! I'd no problems since I discovered the proper way to open it!

Yours is super sensitive. Better fix it (if possible). While you are around the car, someone may walk behind it and suddenly it opens up.
In six weeks of ownership, I only managed to open the boot using gesture method only once. Tried many times but not able to replicate the feat even using the method shown in the manual - gave up already as it is easier to just click & open.

still on the similar problem, the boot automatically open when I walked pass the car at the back,even when I washing the car with the key in my pocket.
Do you guy have the similar problem?

The good side is , I have never failed to open the boot, just with one kick.

Now the gesture based boot is too sensitive, in few occasions the boot just open automatically when I walked close to the boot, without kicking.

After few days of practise, the gesture based boot seem understood my intention. There is a thick fiber board covering/protecting the fuel tank  underneath, which limits  the sensitivity of the sensor.
Perhaps  the sensor need to be trained from time to time, and not getting hang when it is needed. So, for no specific reason,  on and off I kick open the boot .

My salesman told me about the power boot feature. But I guess they're reluctant to inform buyers coz they can't get it right...

Well, looks like we need to spend some extra if want to get deliver to us early. I will all the feature reverse camera, comfort key, Bose, power booth and bluetooth online. Cost me 19.5k.

I think even the salesman doesn't know the feature exists in the standard form.

No one amongst us paid a sen extra for that feature nor was it highlighted by the salesman during delivery. Maybe you can surprise him during delivery

Yes it`s a standard feature for kick to open the boot.
I just received a call from my SA that my car is coming with reverse camera, comfort key, Bose and bluetooth online. But without Power booth. Confirmed to get it with additional 15.5K

Hi Admin, are you sure the boot option is a standard feature? I just got a call from my SA stating that there is a full specs with reverse camera/comfort key/bose/boot / bluetooth online avail, but need at 19k. Is it worth to add the boot and bluetooth option?

As someone here has said, don't despair and try till you get the gesture correct. Make sure you plant your foot in to invoke the sensor, then fluidly (but not too quickly) pull it out. The boot will pop up in less than a sec.

I did successfully open it twice in succession. Seem like the foot need to kiss the bottom of the bumper.

Getting the hang of the gesture now. The key is to give that under bumper kick long enough (something like slightly less than 1 second) for the sensor to be invoked and then fluidly remove the leg (ideally without touching too hard on the bumper) and in less than 1sec, voila, the boot will pop up.

It doesn't have to be in at a 2 o clock position, just directly underneath the Audi rings logo will do

From the manual, it says that the boot will only be opened by the execution of this exact movement

A fluid swing of the foot under the bumper without touching it

And under notes, it says why the exact gesture is needed e.g. Prevent opening of the boot by one's mere Walking between the rear or the vehicle and garage door

Or there are circumstances of which that feature is disabled e.g. Heavy rain, bumper is soiled, parked under a hedge and the wind blows the branches back and forth over an extended period.

Looks like the difficulty in getting the gesture right is by itself a safety feature

Congrats are in order for those who succeeded...was wondering about the location of the sensor tho...I went on all fours to look for the sensor underneath but can't find it.

Finally got it to work and as someone here has said, needs a little practice.

From Audi UK forum, the A8 is equipped with similar feature, some forummers claimed that the sensor is not sensitive enough.

Their version is that you should do a slow kick and retract your leg and wait. Others say you should do two kicks, retract and wait.

I've got it to work with a single kick. To replicate it again later, my success rate was 1 in 3, with practice, my friend, woody here got 4 out of 5.

I think its a handy feature to have. Just needs practice but kinda disappointed that the SA did not even mention this premium feature

Out of countless kicks and swears, I only succeeded twice. WTF!

If you look at Audi YouTube posts, there are 2 versions of foot movement. 1 is kick, the other is step down like on an invisible pedal. None work for me. ???

I'm able to get mine work BUT the sensor is not sensitive enough to detect every kick you made. The success rate is less than 10%. Even the SA told me he dare not disclose the features due to the uncertainty. May be someone got a better technique, mind to share..

Even when I look like a bloody dog pee-ing on his car, I'm still unable to get the power boot to open via motion sensing too. Anyone has better luck?
